Discrimination Between Diastereoisomeric Dipeptides by IR–UV Double Resonance Spectroscopy and Ab Initio Calculations

چکیده
We studied diastereoisomeric dipeptides, containing two chiral centers, by comparing ab initio calculations with laser desorption jet-cooling experiments. We studied the hetero-dipeptides LL–VF (L-Val-L-Phe) and DL–VF and the homo-dipeptides LL–FF (L-Phe-L-Phe) and LD–FF. Changing one of the chiral centers in each molecule leads to changes in the spectra that can be used to distinguish between diastereoisomeric pairs. We observed three different conformers for LL–VF, four for DL–VF, two for LL–FF, and one for LD–FF. By comparing the results from IR– UV double resonant spectroscopy with ab initio calculations, we can draw conclusions about the conformational structures. At the same time, the experimental data serve as a test for the computational results. We discuss the possibilities and limitations of the interplay between theory and experiment. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem 105: 437–445, 2005

Conformational analysis of cyclo(Phe-Ser) by UV–UV and IR–UV double resonance spectroscopy and ab initio calculations
We present the resonant two-photon ionization (R2PI) spectra as well as the UV–UV and IR–UV double resonance spectra for the cyclic dipeptide Phe-Ser. The R2PI spectrum shows five strong transitions in the region of 37 500–37 900 cm . By performing UV–UV double resonance spectroscopy, we distinguished 5 different conformers. For each of these conformers, the origin is the most intense transitio...
متن کاملThe nucleobase cytosine and the cytosine dimer investigated by double resonance laser spectroscopy and ab initio calculations
The vibronic spectrum of laser desorbed and jet cooled cytosine consists of bands from two major tautomers (keto and enol) as revealed by UV-UV and IR-UV double resonance spectroscopy and methyl blocking experiments. Only one isomer each was observed for the cytosine dimer and for the cytosine 1-methylcytosine mixed dimer. These isomers form C=O HNH/NH N hydrogen bonds. Cytosine 5-methylcytosin...
متن کاملIR-UV double resonance spectroscopy of guanine-H2O clusters.
We present the IR-UV double resonance spectrum of guanine monohydrate in the region 3100 cm(-1) to 3800 cm(-1) along with the energies and frequencies of these structures calculated at the non-empirical correlated ab initio RI-MP2/cc-pVDZ level. We assign the structures of guanine-water clusters by comparing the experimental spectra with the ab initio calculations and with the IR spectra of the...
متن کاملPairing of the nucleobases guanine and cytosine in the gas phase studied by IR–UV double-resonance spectroscopy and ab initio calculations
We present R2PI, IR–UV and UV–UV double resonance measurements of the guanine–cytosine (G–C) dimer formed in a supersonic jet. We show that there is only one isomer of G–C in the investigated wavelength range from 33200 to 34100 cm . We assigned the observed G–C isomer to a specific structure, based on comparisons of the IR spectra of the G and C monomers with the G–C dimer in the range of the ...
متن کاملGuanine tautomerism revealed by UV–UV and IR–UV hole burning spectroscopy
The vibronic spectrum of laser desorbed and jet cooled guanine consists of bands from three different tautomers of guanine as revealed by UV–UV and IR–UV double resonance spectroscopy. 1-methylguanine, in which the Keto–Enol tautomerism is blocked, shows hole burning spectra from the 9H-and 7H-Keto form. A comparison of the vibronic pattern of the different tautomers demonstrates that the vibro...
